LAST Thursday we took the opportunity to attend the Villa Fortuna Action Group’s annual meeting and to listen to an informative and engaging guest speaker from Abbottsford Convent, which was rescued from the developers to be beautifully restored and given to the people as a place to be.
We couldn’t help but be infected by the enthusiasm and excitement to see a similar plan for our extraordinary Villa Fortuna here in Bendigo.
The fantastic number of people who attended the recent open day at Villa Fortuna indicates the great interest in this magnificent complex.
This treasure, the former home of George Lansell, must be protected and kept for the community. Imagine markets, theatre, weddings, cafes, craftsmen, music, bakeries, entertainment, community activities, meetings, creative spaces and visitors both local and from far and wide.
We encourage the Bendigo community to support the dedicated Villa Fortuna Action Group by becoming a member and contacting our councillors and council directors to let them know how important it is to save Villa Fortuna for the community.
It has been done before at Abbottsford.
MARG and LEN GASKELL,
