Support for amyloidosis sufferers

16/02/2005 8:38:50 PM
WE WERE very excited to read about Brendan Edwards' liver and kidney transplant in The Advertiser on Tuesday.

The reference to the article was found by an American contact who is also involved in amyloidosis support.

He sent the web address for the article to our amyloidosis discussion group, and we picked it up from there!

Amyloidosis is a rare group of diseases where a protein called amyloid builds up within tissues and organs in the body, causing the malfunctioning of the area it affects, and then ultimately, the death of the patient.

We are involved in providing educational and emotional support for fellow sufferers, as my husband, Jim, has one form of the disease.

A leading authority on amyloidosis is visiting Melbourne in April, and details of his visit are available from our website www.amyloidosisaustralia.org
