Sugarloaf nearly full, despite pumps being off

21 Sep, 2010 09:35 PM
Sugarloaf Reservoir is on track to be full by October 10, even with north-south pipeline pumps being switched off.

The pumps were switched off on September 9, and will not be needed by October 10, due to the fact the reservoir is likely to be full.

As of last week, Sugarloaf Reservoir was 92 per cent full, highlighting the ineffective and wasteful nature of the north- south pipeline.

Since February the north-south pipeline has added just 24-billion litres to Melbourne’s water supply.

This equates to just one per cent of Melbourne’s total dam and reservoir storage space, all for the cost of $1billion.

Incredible, $1billion to add one per cent of water to Melbourne’s dams – Melbourne has always had other cheaper and more sustainable options; the north-south pipeline is not one of them.

Spokeswoman, Plug the Pipe
