Students being denied a chance to learn

08 Sep, 2010 10:40 PM
WE have studied French since prep at White Hills Primary and are now studying it in year 10 at Weeroona College.

We are also planning to continue on with our French in year 11 and 12.

We are annoyed and upset to hear that French was slowly being phased out in Bendigo schools, as this doesn’t offer the younger generation the experience we had to learn an internationally spoken language.

There is a strong connection between the French and English languages as many of our English words come from French roots.

We were outraged to hear of this decision as no students, teachers or parents had been consulted about it.

We believe if the Bendigo community had the chance to have its say on this topic the decision would be different.

So many younger children from White Hills would have been looking forward to the brilliant opportunity to study French.

We hope many people will read this and feel the way we do.

ALEXANDRA and MIKAYLA,

North Bendigo
