I wonder how many of our residents in need of various types of medical attention are aware of the shortage of specialists in central Victoria.
I think it is safe to say that we are close to Melbourne and if needed, we can drive or be driven there within two hours.
However, in some cases this is not possible.
I am aware of a case where a visit to a urologist was needed, only for the resident to be told that there was only one attending to the public hospital system, with a waiting list of 18 months (more or less).
Surely in this day and age, with negotiations with the medical fraternity, it could – and should – be possible to have extra visiting urologists come here, rather than having to travel to Melbourne.
If you have a urology problem, be prepared for the long wait, travel, or both.
I might add that this does not in any way reflect on Bendigo Health and the urologist we have, both of whom are working as quickly as they can to deal with this very serious problem.
