Gas prices at local outlets just don’t add up

07 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
Shame on the price of gas at Safeway’s at Epsom, trading at 67.9 cents per litre, when at Bendigo, Golden Square and Kangaroo Flat are trading at 61.9 cents per litre.

When I asked the operator at the Epsom outlet why, he replied: “There is no competition with other competitors out here. The only competitor is BP and they are trading at 67.9 cents per litre, so are we.”

Consumers are ripped off as all Safeway outlets should be priced the same.

Begs the question, " why is there only one monopolies commission"?

Wow!! I wish I could get gas for as little as 67.9 cents per litre! Here in Perth, I saw gas at Caltex yesterday at 81.9 cents!!!

Just remember that if you have your BP Autogas rewards card, that gas price could be 65.9 cpl.

The least expensive autogas is consistently available at both of Bendigo's two large Independent fuel retailer outlets, one of each on either side of the city. The multi-national and corporate fuel outlets are like the big banks. They will rip off customers stupid enough to use them. It is market forces. The ACCC is a toothless tiger. Consumers have the choice. Shop around for the best deal, it's commonsense.
