 Fortuna will help attract events

Fortuna will help attract events

04 Apr, 2009 03:00 AM
WITH the Golden Age of Couture and Archibald Prize exhibitions, Bendigo has proved that it can be a player on the national stage.

We need to attract more events of this scale and quality to the city, and with the acquisition of Fortuna Villa by the City of Greater Bendigo, we would have the opportunity to do exactly that. The adaptation of significant historic houses for cultural purposes is a world-wide trend.

A sympathetic combination of commercial, community and cultural activities is a proven winner in the US, Britain and Europe. There is no shortage of successful examples. Let’s give it our best shot at retaining this historic house for the lasting benefit of the community.

PETER SEARLE,

Strathdale
