David Arscott in his claim ‘‘The Greens have questions to answer’’ on January 28 clearly doesn’t like the facts to get in the way of a good Green-bashing letter.
We now know that the prompt for the ugly incident in Canberra on Australia Day came from within the Prime Minister’s office and I don’t think there are any Greens lurking there.
While I feel that May 9, the anniversary of three openings of Federal Parliament (1901, 1927 and 1988), would be a much more fitting day than one linked to the dispossession of the land of Aboriginal Australians, I took part in local celebrations with enthusiasm and commitment last Thursday.
Back in Bicentennial Year I led celebrations in my local community as its mayor.
I happen to be a Greens member. Attempts by our conservative opponents to stereotype Greens as less patriotic than the rest of us are deceptive and divisive.
Mr Arscott would do well to get his facts straight if he wants to indulge in these questionable practices.
