Deceptive attempts made to stereotype Greens

04 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
David Arscott in his claim ‘‘The Greens have questions to answer’’ on January 28 clearly doesn’t like the facts to get in the way of a good Green-bashing letter.

We now know that the prompt for the ugly incident in Canberra on Australia Day came from within the Prime Minister’s office and I don’t think there are any Greens lurking there.

While I feel that May 9, the anniversary of three openings of Federal Parliament (1901, 1927 and 1988), would be a much more fitting day than one linked to the dispossession of the land of Aboriginal Australians, I took part in local celebrations with enthusiasm and commitment last Thursday.

Back in Bicentennial Year I led celebrations in my local community as its mayor.

I happen to be a Greens member. Attempts by our conservative opponents to stereotype Greens as less patriotic than the rest of us are deceptive and divisive.

Mr Arscott would do well to get his facts straight if he wants to indulge in these questionable practices.

Hans Paas,

Castlemaine

The Greens are complicit with the great deception that is government of Julia Gillard: "

There will be no carbon tax under the government I lead:, Stereotype may be Haans, but certainly fact.

"Aboriginal activist and former Greens candidate Barbara Shaw revealed she had been tipped off to Mr Abbott's comments and the location of the function he would later attend.

Ms Shaw admitted to then whipping up the tent embassy crowd gathered in front of Parliament House to celebrate its 40 year anniversary."

Getting the facts straight is something Mr Paas should concentrate on, as should most Greens.

"If The Cap Fits.." is quite correct; it was a former Greens candidate who initially caused the disgraceful display in Canberra.

Mr Paas also states, "Back in Bicentennial Year I led celebrations in my local community as its mayor." but signs his letter, "Hans Paas, Castlemaine", leaving one with the impression he was mayor of that community at some time.

Paas was mayor in Williamstown, and his term on council there was 25 years ago.

"Deception by omission" is common in Greens!
