Community’s priority is for a Kangaroo Flat pool

Community’s priority is for a Kangaroo Flat pool

03 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
THE overwhelming majority in our community will see much merit in this week’s City of Greater Bendigo statement that the silly summer idea to dust off the ditched multi-million Crusoe Reservoir beach proposal is simply not a priority.

Our local community, among them those who actually live in and near to Kangaroo Flat, identified far more important needs for the future of Kangaroo Flat: the campaign for a new 50-metre pool and the state of vital local roads among them.

We have been reminded of existing alternatives to a new beach that would have been situated within a nature reserve: Lake Eppalock and Cairn Curran are within close proximity to Bendigo and surrounding suburbs.

And there was a healthy level of commonsense in considering what is best: it would have been reckless to divert millions of dollars to the Crusoe Reservoir beach scheme to the detriment of more pressing projects.

The council has sensibly and methodically explained why the beach scheme was originally ditched and why it is not a priority now. It has also listened to the community on this occasion.

A beach at Crusoe Reservoir is simply a cost we as a community cannot afford at this time.

CHRIS EARL,

Kangaroo Flat

"A beach at Crusoe Reservoir is simply a cost we as a community cannot afford at this time."

Well put Mr Earl. Council has to prioritise and it's no surprise Ms Edwards' silly beach thought-bubble is at the bottom of its list.

Everyone is financially stretched these days and regular council-rates increases are not helping.

We certainly don't need a multi-million dollar pile of sand dumped at Crusoe Reservoir taking precedence over the truly community supported 50 metre pool at Kangaroo Flat or the urgent repair of the areas disintegrating roads.

Spot on Chris Earl.

Maybe you and Maree should have a meeting to bring her up to speed with what the community needs and wants are.

The beach proposal is only a publicity stunt to get Maree's name in the paper. A couple of months ago most people would say Maree who? Now a lot more have heard of her.

Chris,

Could you be a bit more specific about the roads,. some of the worst and most dangerous are Vic Roads, Olympic parade for instance, and thats a State Government issue.

If your running for council it would help if you knew the difference between council and State responsibilities.

Kflat resident, before you make a statement, be sure of the facts yourself - Olympic Parade is a Council road and not Vicroads. I am sure if you asked both, you would get a common answer.

Although I don't sometimes agree with what Chris writes here, I believe he has a point here.
