 City monstrosity certainly not heritage

City monstrosity certainly not heritage

08 Sep, 2010 10:41 PM
TALK of the pot calling the kettle black.

When VCAT overturned a decision by the council to stop the demolition of two shops in View Street and the construction of another building a City of Greater Bendigo councillor said it was not in respect to heritage in View Street.

I believe councillors should take a look over their shoulder and look at the coloured glass monstrosity built in among heritage buildings at the entrance to the Bendigo CBD and Pall Mall.

It’s a dumping ground for unwanted coloured glass. Yet the councillors allowed it to be constructed.

That is what I think most people would call disrespect to heritage, not the View Street job.

I believe the lane should be name “Monstrosity Square” and the mall “Stupidity Walk”.

Bendigo doesn’t start and stop at the CBD. The council may think so, but lots of others don’t.

LAWRENCE THOMAS,

Long Gully
