I WOULD like to commend and thank the Department of Sustainability and Environment, La Trobe University and the City of Greater Bendigo on the free Bush Walkabout at Dead Dog Gully held on Sunday.
This family event was part of the Spring in the Bendigo Bush program and lasted more than three hours. The 40-plus group met at Dead Dog Gully and after signing in proceeded to walk, in three groups led by final-year Nature Tourism students from La Trobe University, to Diamond Hill. There were many stops along the way to point out and identify native plants, birds and the effects of our mining past.
A well-organised lunch was provided, which was most unexpected. The barbecue was cooked and ready to go when we arrived, chairs were placed around a flat spot and even a mobile toilet was discreetly placed away from the lunch area, for our convenience.
I would like to say thank you to all concerned for a very enjoyable time walking in the bush and to those who took part in the walk - how lucky were we? I am sure everyone who attended will note this program of events for the next Spring in the Bendigo Bush.
