Au revoir to French language teachers

Au revoir to French language teachers

30 Aug, 2010 11:08 PM
This week French teachers in local government schools were informed that French is being phased out in Bendigo.

A review panel made this decision without consulting teachers, parents or school communities.

Students from White Hills Primary, Big Hill Primary, Laurel Street Primary, Crusoe Secondary College, Eaglehawk Secondary College, Weeroona College Bendigo and Bendigo Senior Secondary College will in the future no longer have the opportunity to learn this language spoken by 42 other countries in the world.

French students have always enjoyed the rich culture of France, particularly aspects relating to food, the arts, fashion, history and sporting events.

From now on, parents who want their children to learn French will need to send them to Catholic College, Creek Street or Girton.

I, for one, am deeply saddened by this hasty decision.

Bendigo Advertiser, Queen Street Bendigo Dear Sir/Madam, As a student of Weeroona College Bendigo I am deeply concerned and outraged by the recent decision about the French language being phased out from a lot of schools in Bendigo. I have been learning this language since year seven and I was hoping to continue it in year eleven and twelve. Students from White Hills Primary, Crusoe Secondary College, Eaglehawk Secondary College, Weeroona College and more won’t get the opportunity to study this Brilliant language. This language is well loved and spoken by many countries in the world. I don’t think everyone is thinking about the long term affect this may have on students and French teachers. Regards Tayla Morris. French Student
