THE Villa Fortuna Action Group (VFAG) was pleased to read in
The Advertiser that Fortuna continues to make the news.
We were also most interested in the report of Steve Gibbon’s proposal, although our vision differs in some detail.
As The Advertiser and the public are aware, the VFAG has been preparing a detailed proposal supporting this vision for the future of the site, and this will be presented to the City of Greater Bendigo in due course.
The Villa Fortuna Action Group is a community-based organisation which advocates community ownership and use of the Fortuna property.
We envisage a vibrant, world-class, economically viable and environmentally responsible cultural facility at the site, making maximum use of its unique attributes.
Such a centre would provide a wide variety of attractions, both as on-going programs, and as periodic, seasonal or specialised events, offering unsurpassed promotional opportunities for Bendigo and the region.
There has been recent discussion on attracting international events to the Bendigo region.
This VFAG proposal for the entire Fortuna site would be a major contribution to this vision for the ongoing growth and national and international recognition of Bendigo’s historic heritage, and exciting future.
MERLE HALL,
President, Villa Fortuna Action Group, Bendigo
