TO say it has been a tragic weekend in central Victoria is an understatement.
Words cannot describe what three families must be grappling with.
Eight-year-old Bailey Fuller lost his life on Friday and two other people died on the region’s roads yesterday.
Roger, Andrea and Zac Fuller have been overwhelmed with the community’s outpouring of support since Bailey went missing.
It is incredible to see our community open its arms for the family.
When news about Bailey’s disappearance got out, the public responded.
Cars and people on foot, some who had no connection to the Fuller family, paced up and down Bennetts Road and surrounds searching for Bailey.
The mood at the command centre intensified as the search ticked from hour to hour.
But a loss of light and cooling temperature failed to deter the community’s search.
Everyone was determined to help where possible.
It is this support that prompted Mr Fuller to come out and thank the community and emergency response crews that helped look for his boy.
You can only hope that the families of the two people who died on our roads yesterday will receive the same support the Fullers have.
The fatalities come as yet another reminder about road safety.
Every single life that is lost on roads is a tragedy – a tragedy that has occurred 12 times in Victoria this year.
As a community we need to strive to ensure yesterday’s deadly day is a rarity on our roads.
