 Kevin’s move a welcome relief

Kevin’s move a welcome relief

23 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
Thank you, Kevin.

Finally someone has had the courage to start the process to end the debacle which has become the federal government leadership.

Put your political preference aside for one minute. Supporters of any side of politics would have to agree the constant speculation on a Kevin Rudd challenge to Julia Gillard has derailed the political landscape.

Take the important announcement surrounding the future of education and the Gonski report this week. While journalists and the Prime Minister politely warmed up with some easy questions, everyone was waiting for the real punch – the leadership debate.

When it came Julia Gillard rambled on over and over again about the support of her colleagues as the journalists maintained the attack. In the end Julia Gillard simply walked away.

There’s a swag of vital issues that should be demanding the attention of our senior politicians, yet the topic of discussion is the relationship between two. This country deserves better.

Kevin Rudd’s resignation paves the way for a leadership showdown.

Bring it on. Get it over with.

Settle who is going to lead this government and get on with what the people of Australia voted you in to do – run the country.

For the coming days we will be forced to watch on as Julia Gillard and Kevin Rudd jostle for numbers.

No doubt we will be forced to sit through a marathon of claims and counter claims as both try to convince themselves, their colleagues and the nation they are the best person to lead Labor and the country.

We have to trust that when the dust settles the right person to lead Australia will emerge. Well, the right person to lead Australia to the next election, when the nation will finally get to deliver its thoughts on the conduct of our senior politicians.

Go Kevin. People need to rally the streets and show how they feel about you and who they want as their PM. We already did vote you and Gillard despotically overtook. We want you back. People who voted you need to get together and show their support in public. The media need to see who is Australia's preferred PM. We do NOT want the government led by back-stabbers, manipulators, rioters, manipulators, and uncontrollable attention-seekers. If Gillard stays as PM Labour is D E A D.

It's far from a relief, it's a nightmare, it has the potential not only to bring down the PM but the government. Most of those saying with smirks bring it on Rudd have never considered that perhaps he has no interest and is going to retire, now thats what I'd call diplomatic side step and shuffle.

I don't care who the Leader of the Labor Party is. Liberals don't care who the leader of the Liberal Party is.

Will the Milky Bar Kid return, that is the million dollar question?

This is Mr Rudd's second resignation in the midst of important issues. In any other workplace a resignation means that and not simply a change of positions within the same workplace.

William, 23/02/2012 , after Kevin Rudd's knifing as PM, whatever his real intentions may be now - if indeed he has decided - surely it is obvious that not only is 'all fair in love and war' but 'politics' can be added to that.

Credit where credit is due. A well reasoned editorial without the hyperbole. I read all editorials and can pick the ones that are given some thought. Some are just written from the mindset of 'mustn't forget the next editorial' while looking at the clock or I'll grab something from a journalist.

I'll take issue with the claim of 'running the country'; the leadership issue and running the country are not mutually exclusive. The leadership is a sideshow while the country is run, which it will mostly do on its own anyway. The Gibbon's outburst was uncalled for, best kept to one-self.
