It’s one thing to tell your mates but telling the world via a newspaper is a whole different ball game – pardon the pun.
But this is exactly what Jamie Morgan and Mike Elliott have done.
They are tired of men not talking about – well – their testicles and the issues that can present within them.
They are tired of the brotherhood sweeping ill health under the carpet and assuming it will go away. But whether we acknowledge it or not, problems occur and cancer fails to discriminate.
Mr Morgan and Mr Elliott have taken one for the team in hope it will help other men and their health.
Testicular cancer isn’t new, neither is creating awareness about it and yet people still avoid talking about the disease. The BlueBall Foundation seeks to create awareness through humour – a new take on an old issue.
The foundation has a Facebook page and website that features humorous videos all in the name of creating awareness. The two men have started small.
They’ve shared their story and plan to build the foundation from grass roots. Comedy will be central to the foundation in the hope it will encourage men to engage with the issue.
Talking about it is one part, acting on it is another.
So now it is over to you, the men of Greater Bendigo. Check your gear, make sure it’s all in order.
Do it in the shower, do it wherever you feel comfortable – clearly within reason – but make sure you do it.
And to the partners of the city’s men, if you notice something unusual down there speak up.
A little bit of embarrassment might just save the life of the bloke you love.
