WORLD number one junior tennis star Daniel Berta will be playing in Bendigo’s Australian Open Junior Qualifying tournament next week.
The 17-year-old from Sweden will be playing for a place in the Australian Open junior championships to be held at Melbourne Park from January 25.
The qualifying event, which will be held from January 18-22 at the Bendigo Bank tennis complex in Nolan Street, is the Swedish teenager’s last opportunity to secure a place in the junior Grand Slam.
Berta will most likely take to the court next Thursday when the international qualifying rounds begin at the tournament.
Berta, who hails from Helsingborg, was the winner of the French Open junior championship in 2009 and won the singles and doubles at the Mitsubishi-Lancer International Junior Championships in the Philippines.
He was also the doubles champion at the ITF World Junior Championships in Malaysia with Francis Casey Alcantara of the Philippines.
