Led by Sam Stosur, the Aussie senior Fed Cup team advanced to the world group with a stunning win over Germany at the weekend.
The Junior Fed Cup team – Naiktha Bains, Isabella Wallace and Zoe Hives – will attempt to emulate their heroes starting with a clash against Singapore today.
“It helps enormously to have role-models at the very top,” Pratt said.
“Sam Stosur winning the US Open and now the Fed Cup team making it to the top eight teams in the world.
“It’s an amazing effort and that certainly will inspire our girls to bigger and better things.”
Pratt said this week’s tournament is as much about development as it is winning.
“The expectation is that we will make the top four,’’ she said.
“But at the same it’s also an invaluable experience for the girls to have a coach on the court with them.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity for the girls to gain some experience.”
The Aussies are seeded third this week and have fifth-seed China, Malaysia and Singapore for company in their pool.
“I don’t know a lot about the opposition, but we won’t be taking any country lightly,” she said.
“I’ve seen a few of the Japanese girls play a bit and they play very well. They could be the team to beat.”
Pratt, who has been to Bendigo the past two years for the William Loud Pro Tour event, said it was an advantage for the Aussies to have the tournament on home soil.
“The court surface is not a big advantage, it’s more the fact that we didn’t have to take flights, we’re in our time zone and there’s no jet lag,’’ she said.
“We get to eat our food and everything is comfortable.”
