THE Bendigo Dragons’ 50-over Masters netball team capped a great week at the World Masters Games in Sydney by winning silver medals.
The team played preliminary matches against teams from New South Wales, South Australia, and the Australian Capital Territory.
At the end of the 10-match round-robin series, Bendigo had won eight contests.
The finals were hotly contested, with the Dragons coming up against Commodores from Sydney, who had defeated the Dragons in the preliminary rounds by five goals, and then played a draw in the second round.
The Dragons started the match in great form and were able to turn around the earlier results to take a 34-24 win in an excellent match, which gave them the opportunity to contest the gold-silver medal play-off.
Bendigo took on the highly fancied Jazz, which had representatives from many states on court.
The grand finalists had a win each when they met in the preliminary rounds.
Jazz led by two at the first change, and Bendigo by a goal at half-ime.
Scores were locked on 16-all going into the final quarter.
Jazz capitalised on a turnover and went on to win a high-standard match, 21-19.
The Bendigo Dragons line-up included players from across Bendigo, with a player from Melbourne and Gisborne also on court for the Masters Games showdowns.
