THE Bendigo Football Netball League has amended the result of the round six A grade netball clash between Kangaroo Flat and Maryborough because of discrepancies on the official score sheet.
The game, which was originally awarded to Kangaroo Flat with a score line of 30-29, has now been called a draw following a review of the score sheet with both teams scoring 29 goals.
BFNL netball sub-committee chairwoman Melissa Ryan said the review of the score sheet came after a Maryborough committee member lodged a complaint with the committee.
“We were asked by Maryborough officials for a re-count of the scores in the Kangaroo Flat match,” she said.
“We come across errors on scorecards from time to time and in this case, the executive committee unanimously determined each team to have scored 29 goals.”
Ryan said that in reviewing a score the BFNL, in line with Netball Victoria by-laws, only counts strokes that are recorded on the page.
“The only part of the score sheet that applies is the strokes recorded beside the goal-shooter and goal-attack,” she said.
“Because we are affiliated with Netball Victoria, we fall under its bylaws and its dispute resolution.
“It agreed that the strokes on the score sheet are the official indication of the score and that is what the executive committee reviewed.”
Kangaroo Flat committee member and A-reserve coach Catherine Wicks said she would be following up the matter with the executive committee.
“I would like to see the clubs involved queried about it before a change is made,” she said.
“Both umpires and captains signed off on the score sheet and it should have been queried at the time.
“We were under the impression that once the score sheet was signed off it was a done deal.”
The split 10th round starts this Saturday.
Sandhurst takes on Strathfieldsaye at the QEO, and Eaglehawk takes on Gisborne at Canterbury Park.
