Strathfieldsaye to hit the training track

20/11/2008 9:00:00 AM
THE newly-formed Strathfieldsaye Football Club will have its first training session this Monday night.

Strathfieldsaye will join the Bendigo Bank Bendigo Football League next season as its 10th club, with inaugural senior coach Clint Whitsed, a premiership player with Rochester this year, to put the club’s players through their paces from 6 pm at the Tannery Lane Sports Complex.

As well as signing Whitsed as coach, the Storm has also secured former Eaglehawk player Ryan Pedrotti as an assistant coach.

Also among the Storm’s inaugural playing list will be ex-Mitiamo pair Tim Wicks, a three-time winner of the Loddon Valley Football League’s Harding Medal, and classy forward Craig Nicholls, who kicked 53 goals for the Superoos this year.

The club is yet to appoint a reserves coach, with Paul Hingston to take charge of the under-18 side.

While the club will start training on Monday night, it will hold a meet the coaches day this Sunday at the Tannery Lane Sports Complex between noon and 4 pm.

Drinks and a BBQ will be available.

Meanwhile, in other BFL news, Kangaroo Flat began its pre-season training campaign last Friday night.

More than 40 players attended the Roos’ first training session at Spring Gully, including new recruits Shannon Geary from the Bendigo Bombers, and former Mount Pleasant coach Cameron Carter.

The Roos, who finished a much-improved sixth this year under new coach Darryl Wilson, will train three times a week until December 20.

Sandhurst, which will again have Keiran Nihill at the helm as coach, began its pre-season training last night.

South Bendigo will start its pre-season training at Spring Gully tomorrow night under coach Rick Coburn.
