KYNETON has secured former Port Melbourne VFL player Lee Picioane for the 2009 Bendigo Bank Bendigo Football League season.Picioane is the brother of former Adelaide, North Melbourne and Hawthorn AFL player Lance Picioane, who the Tigers are also believed to be in negotiations with.Kyneton coach Paul Houston confirmed the signing of Lee, who played with Essendon District Football League club Keilor last year, to The Advertiser last night.“I coached against Lee last year and he certainly gave me plenty of headaches,” said Houston, who coached Avondale Heights last season.“He’s a very good player who was an attacking half-back flanker for Keilor.”Picioane was one of Keilor’s best players in its upset 33-point win over Greenvale in last year’s EDFL A grade grand final. While the Tigers have picked up Picioane, their star utility of the past two years, Cameron Tate, has officially lodged a clearance to join Eastern Football League club Wantirna South.Meanwhile, Castlemaine has regained former skipper Chris Jardine.Jardine, a premiership player with Castlemaine in 2000, left the Magpies last year to play with Natte-Bealiba in the Lexton Plains Football League. However, in what is a significant boost for the Magpies in their 150th season, Jardine is returning to Camp Reserve.“He’s a hard-at-it player, so it’s good to have him back and with the experience he brings, it’s going to be good for our young players,” Castlemaine coach Jamie Elliott said.“He is the type of player who can play anywhere.“He seems to have been labelled as a backman and when he plays down there he always plays on the good forwards in the league, but I think he can play a role further up the ground for us at stages.”While Castlemaine regains Jardine, the Magpies have lost three of their key players of last year to Maryborough-Castlemaine District Football League club Newstead - key defender Mark Ramsey, back pocket Scott Timmins and wingman Lachlan Ford.In other BFL player movements, last year’s runner-up, Golden Square, has cleared star wingman Daniel McLaughlin back to his original club, Wangaratta Rovers, in the Ovens and Murray Football League.McLaughlin was a revelation in the BFL last year and was named on the interchange in The Advertiser Team of the Year.“Daniel was a terrific player for us last year and a great bloke, but just for family reasons he wanted to get back closer to home, which is fair enough,” Golden Square coach Mark Adamson said. Also departing Golden Square, which plays Eaglehawk at Canterbury Park to open the season on April 4, will be defender Aaron Randall, who will join Geelong Football League club Leopold.Golden Square’s reigning best and fairest, Leigh Davies, has had his clearance to Heathcote District Football League club Mount Pleasant approved.Golden Square, which has regained the versatile Clayton Anderson after a season with Lavington, will have its first hit-out of the pre-season against Shepparton United on March 14.New Eaglehawk full-forward Balraj Singh has had his first clearance from Goulburn Valley Football League club Kyabram denied.Singh kicked 82 goals for Kyabram last year. And, there has been an influx of clearances lodged for the BFL’s newest club, Strathfieldsaye.Strathfieldsaye will this year become the BFL’s 10th club, eliminating the bye. With 37 days to go until Strathfieldsaye’s debut game against Castlemaine on April 11, the Storm has 33 players who have been officially cleared to the new club. One of the big questions surrounding the Storm once its entry into the BFL was granted in September, last year, was where it was going to source its players from.Of the 33 players cleared to the Storm so far, they come from 17 different clubs, with the most affected clubs being Sandhurst (eight players) and Maldon (six).
