Kyneton strengthens ranks

10 Nov, 2009 08:17 AM
KYNETON’S bid to finish away from the bottom of the Bendigo Football Netball League ladder for the first time since 2007 has received a boost, with the club confirming three signings.

The Tigers have secured three players from Old Essendon Grammarians in the Victorian Amateur Football Association - Daniel Cooper, Jim Condos and Rob Trajkovski.

Cooper is a best and fairest winner with Old Essendon and was the ruckman for the VAFA against the VCFL side this year after enjoying an injury-free season.

Condos has previously played at Werribee, Parkside and Keilor, where he kicked 85 goals at full-forward three years ago.

Condos’ player profile on the Old Essendon website lists him as being able to make an “impact with his physical play, smarts around goals and hunger for the contest. Deadly in front of goal, he is a valuable part of the team’s forward line.”

Trajkovski joins the Tigers with a reputation as a strong-bodied midfielder.

“And there’s a few others we’ve been talking to, but like most around this time of year they’re not committing yet, but these three blokes have committed to us,” Kyneton president Travis Law said yesterday.

“We’ve spoken to all our under-18s who are going up, and most of them played seniors last year, and nearly all of them have committed to play, so that’s a positive and hopefully, will strengthen our reserves as well.

“We’re going to be a lot better off than last season, when we were close to folding in March, when we had just five blokes at training for the three sides after the long weekend in March.

“We’d be very confident at the moment to say we won’t have those dramas again.”

The Tigers - who have won just two games in the past two years - will start their pre-season training under coach Paul Houston on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Kyneton is hopeful of filling a full quota of four netball teams next year and is looking for prospective coaches.

Because of a lack of numbers the Tigers were unable to field an A grade side this year.

The Kyneton netball teams will train on a Wednesday night from next week.
