Former Bendigo rower Hannah Every-Hall is among Australia’s best medal chances at this week’s 2010 World Rowing Championships in New Zealand.Competing in the lightweight double sculls event with partner Alice McNamara, the pair enters the Championships as Australia’s greatest gold medal hope.Every-Hall and McNamara are no strangers to success this season – the pair won the gold medal at a World Cup event in Switzerland in May.Every-Hall, who is a former Bendigo Advertiser/WIN Television Sports Star of the Year winner, said she was confident heading into the championships, despite the pair battling injury and illness in the lead-up.“We did really well back in June, so we will go in knowing what we can do,” she said.“We’ve had a little bit of bad luck, with Alice breaking her ankle in August and I had bronchitis in September, but we’re ready to go now.“This year is a long season so six weeks out of the boat worked out in our favour because now we’re fresh and ready to go.”Every-Hall added that although her team was in good form, there were a number of serious challengers from a range of competitive rowing nations.“The top two athletes from every country will be competing so it’s going to be really tough,” she said.“The girls from Greece won the European Championships so they will be tough.“We’ve never competed against the USA but they’ve got a really good partnership who have been together for a while. The Poms are always good and Canada always put up a good fight.”Every-Hall has had nothing but success since returning to rowing 12 months ago following almost eight years out of the sport. The 32-year-old is focused on qualifying for the 2012 London Olympic Games and said she is on track to do so.“If I think about it too much I get a bit overwhelmed, but I’m living my dream and 2012 is still what I’m aiming for and every day it’s looking more likely.“Everything has just worked out so well this year and I’m feeling really confident.”Every-Hall and McNamara will hit the water on Lake Karapiro, New Zealand this Sunday.
