THE all-Sandhurst Marist Dockers clash between Green and White will be a highlight of this weekend’s 15th round in the Bendigo Bank Bendigo Junior Football League’s under-16 1/2 competition.
White has a 12-2 record and is second on the ladder, and Green is third with a win-loss tally of 10-4.
When these teams last met, White scored a six-point victory in a historic match.
This year is the first time the Dockers have fielded two teams in the under-16 1/2 competition.
The club spent a lot of the pre-season ensuring the two sides were selected using the club’s `even teams’ philosophy.
Club president Shane Meade is also coach of the Dockers’ Green under-16 1/2 team.
“We believe having the sides as even as possible is the best way we can ensure our players enjoy competitive football each week and also helps improve their footy skills,’’ Meade said.
Several of the Dockers have reached or will play their 100th game this season.
Meade said an exciting development for the Dockers was that at least six players in the under-16 1/2 teams are playing football for the first time this year.
“The boys are playing great footy and enjoying themselves, which is the most important thing.’’
This season, Sandhurst Marist Dockers has more than 130 registered for its six teams.
The club fields two teams in the under-16 1/2 and under-15A competitions.
There is also a team in the under-13 1/2 A division and another in the Bs.
The Dockers’ under-16 1/2 line-ups will clash at Weeroona Oval from 12.05pm on Sunday.
