Bendigo meeting a washout – again

Bendigo meeting a washout – again

25 Aug, 2010 09:55 PM
FOR the third time this month rain has forced the Bendigo Jockey Club to either abandon or transfer its scheduled race meeting.

Late yesterday afternoon, after a track inspection by Racing Victoria Limited stewards and BJC track manager Bernard Hopkins, today’s meeting was transferred to the Geelong synthetic track.

The track was rated a heavy 10 on Tuesday afternoon, but the 10mm of rain that fell on the course that night, plus yesterday’s consistent rain, gave RVL no option but to transfer the meeting.

The BJC had more than 50mm of rain on the course in the past week after also losing meetings on August 1 (abandoned) and August 19 (transferred) because of surface water on the track.

The silver lining to the BJC’s cloudy August is that the lack of wear and tear on the track augurs well for a pristine surface for the BJC’s spring meetings, including the Bendigo Cup on October 27.
