Baseball league honours outstanding performers

31 Aug, 2010 10:42 PM
THE Bendigo Baseball Association recognised the stars of today and yesteryear at its annual awards night at the Strathfiedsaye Sports Club.

A highlight of the season wind-up was the naming of the first inductees to the Hall of Fame, as well as presentation of life memberships.

The Bendigo Baseball Association began in 1935 and hundreds of players have pitched, batted and fielded in that time.

The Hall of Fame categories are player, administrator and representative.

The first players to be inducted were Alby Jack, Noel Arthur, Ken Cleaver, John Hutchison, Frank Griffiths, Bruce Pain, Rob Boxshall and Dennis Kennedy.

The administrative feats of E A Cambridge were recognised, along with representatives Garry Cooper, Jack Svanosio and Ted Barkmeyer.

Life membership was awarded to Pat Murphy and Peter Ritchie.

On the diamond, there were many superb individual and team efforts across all three grades in the 2010 season.

Most Valuable Player in A grade was Falcons star Mick Peters.

The runner-up was Damien Tresize from Bendigo East.

Clubmates at Falcons, Jason Harriage and Adam Burns earned the MVP awards in B grade and C grade.

Certificates of thanks were presented to coaches, managers and scorers of Bendigo’s representative teams, and to umpires Bill Jones and Rod Moon for representing the BBA.

The finals action continues this weekend on the diamonds across Bendigo.
