MOTORCYCLING stars from across the country will raid Wedderburn for this weekend’s round of the Yamaha-backed off-road dirt bike racing championship.Hundreds of competitors, fans and support crew will descend on the town for two big days of action.The rounds, dubbed the Yamaha Gold Rush AORC, are being organised by Motorcycling Australia in conjunction with the Bendigo Motorcycle Club.Yamaha AORC co-ordinator Denise Hore said the event would be one not to miss for keen racers and trail riders alike.“The Yamaha AORC is not only for experienced enduro racers, but is an excellent opportunity for trail riders to get a taste of national competition or motocross riders looking to test their skills in the bush,” Hore said.Racing will be on a mix of bush and grass track terrain.A cross-country race will be held tomorrow on a half fast grass track and half tight bush.“We will have two courses on Sunday for the sprint, each will be about 10 minutes,” Hore said.There will be live timing both days and on both tracks for the sprint.Toby Price leads the Yamaha Championship E2 Class and Outright.Cross-country format consists of a mass-start, two-and-a-half hour race for Pro and Expert, but other classes race for less time.In the sprint format, competitors will do a one-lap dash, with several heats being run.“The AORC are fantastic for spectators, with nail-biting action and the chance to get up close and personal with the stars of Australian enduro racing,” Hore said.Gates at the Wedderburn property, located off the Calder Highway about 10-minutes on the Bendigo side of Wedderburn will open at 9am tomorrow and on Sunday.Admission is $5 adult, and free entry for under-14 years.The Yamaha AORC includes the following Australian championship classes: GP Industries E1, Yamaha E2, Pirelli E3, RK Chains Veterans, Masters, Motul Womens and Junior Class 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.The support classes are Polisport Expert E1, Endura Expert E2/E3, Clubman E1, Clubman E2/3 and Clubman Veterans.Other rounds will be at Kapunda in the Barossa Valley on August 7 and 8, and the finale on September 4 and 5 at a venue to be advised.The 2010 Yamaha AORC is sponsored by Yamaha, Motul, Pirelli, RK Chains, Endura, Polisport, ADB magazine, Ballards Off-Road, and GP Industries.
