Hawks, Reds all tied up

It’s all tied up at the top of the FFV Central division one men’s table, with Eaglehawk and Spring Gully split on five wins and a draw.The Borough and the Reds were both successful on Sunday, with Eaglehawk defeating Golden City 6-1 and Spring Gully winning 6-0 at home over Swan Hill.Eaglehawk dominated their match on the back of a standout performance from Chris Hopley, who finished the match with two goals.The Borough’s Keegan Smyth and Shane Eleveld stamped their authority on the midfield early in the match, while leading goalscorer Sam Gower and Shaun Allen set the task for Golden City’s Todd Morely and Steve Graham in defence.Smyth was the first to score for the home side with a low shot from distance, before Nathan Hamblin made it 2-0 after 12 minutes.City were quick to reply through a cross from Julian Miles-Keogh to Ben Thomas, who beat Borough keeper Tristan Evans from close range.A goal to Eleveld before the half-time break gave Eaglehawk a 3-1 lead.The home side stepped up its game after the break, with goals to Sam McCloud and Chris Hopley (two) to blow out the final score.● Spring Gully’s Rowan Muller was his team’s best in their 6-0 win over Swan Hill, scoring a hat-trick for the Reds.At Stanley Avenue, Spring Gully’s midfield of Marcus Dawson, Simon Feldtmann and Jacob Van Dalen built pressure in the corridoor and limited Swan Hill’s opportunities.After leading 2-0 at half-time, the Reds made significant changes at the break, bringing on young guns Jarrod Styles and Daniel Bish.The move paid off, whith Styles scoring an impressive goal.George Code added to the home team’s score, before Bish and Muller piled on another two to help their side to a confidence-boosting win.Best for Swan Hill were Brent Mitchell, Chris Lewin and Matt Smith.● Castlemaine’s championship hopes was served a blow, with the Maine losing 3-1 to Colts United.The loss saw Castlemaine drop to fourth place and was their first loss for the season.It was Colts’ first home game in four weeks and the team made the most of the opportunity with Colts racing out to a 2-0 lead early in the second half.● In the final match of the round, Strathdale kept its championship homes alive with a 2-0 win over Epsom.Goals to Nic Watson and Dan De Blauw secured the Blues’ fourth win of the season, with an injury to star player Jackon Clayton the only blemish for the winning side.
