EPSOM’s women’s team is now only one point behind the ladder-leading Eaglehawk following a 14-0 win against Swan Hill in the latest round of the Football Federation Victoria central region championship.
Despite being only one point behind, it is unlikely Epsom will be able to bridge the gap, with Eaglehawk likely to score a big win against Swan Hill in this Sunday’s final round.
Epsom’s Emma Wolters was again outstanding for her side, scoring six goals against the Swans.
Lily Water, Marni Grabasch and Paide Gordon scored two goals each in Epsom’s win on home turf.
In other women’s matches, Colts United scored a 6-0 victory against Golden City at the Strathfieldsaye.
The Moama Border Raiders easily accounted for Spring Gully 6-0.
Castemaine teamed well to score a 1-1 draw with Strathdale.
The men’s division two competition is also set to go down to the wire following Strathdale’s 3-0 win against Castlemaine in last Sunday’s play.
The Blues’ win puts the team only one point behind Eaglehawk, which will face Swan Hill on the road next weekend. If Eaglehawk defeats Swan Hill it will win the championship, but if it draws or loses, Strathdale can clinch the title by beating Epsom in Sunday’s battle at Beischer Park.
