MITIAMO won a five-point thriller against Marong at Malone Park in the Loddon Valley Football League on Saturday. The Superoos trailed at half-time and three quarter-time, but were in front at the final siren, winning 18.11 (119) to 17.12 (114).“The pleasing aspect of the win was the way we fought it out to the end,’’ Mitiamo coach Wayne Eve said.“I was really pleased with the way we kept fighting for each other.’’Twin forwards Ryan Haythorpe (six) and Alex Chapman (five) combined for 11 goals for the Superoos.Others to play well for the Superoos included half-back Thomas Ogilvie, gun midfielder Jake Panoho and key defender Joel Whybird. While beaten, it was a much improved effort by the Panthers on their past three games against Mitiamo when they had lost by margins of 88, 140 and 111 points.Full-forward Chris Stone kicked six goals for the Panthers, whose better players also included captain Lee Franklin in the midfield and Marcus Joyner.● Bridgewater dished out a football lesson to rivals Inglewood.A week after its 14-game winning streak was ended, Bridgewater bounced back with a 152-point victory over the Blues at Inglewood. The Mean Machine had 53 scoring shots to just six as it won 24.29 (173) to 3.3 (21).Among the stars in the win was Zeb Broadbent, who kicked nine goals.Had he taken all his chances, Broadbent would have finished with 15 goals after also kicking six behinds.Fellow forward Brad Rohde kicked four goals as he became the first player this season to pass the 50-goal mark in the LVFL.Assistant coach Marcus Emmett, the in-form Darren Clutton and veteran Andrew Ferguson were among the best players for Bridgewater.Kris Doran and Brayden Balnaves were the two best for the Blues, whose three goals were kicked by Brett Wilson, Daniel Reid and Frank Towers.● An inaccurate Pyramid Hill defeated Newbridge by 72 points at Mitchell Park, winning 14.27 (111) to 6.3 (39).The Bulldogs’ kicking woes started right from the outset when they had 4.14 on the board at quarter-time.“There was a bit of wind about, but I didn’t put our inaccuracy down to that,” Pyramid Hill coach Leigh Davies said.“I thought our boys were pretty selfish in front of goal at times. They were trying to kick over there heads and around their shoulders and that sort of stuff.”Anthony Holdstock, Davies and Gavin James were the standouts for the Bulldogs, while Craig Chrichton kicked four goals.Youngster Ryan Burt was Newbridge’s best player.● YCW extended its winning streak to nine games after defeating Calivil United 20.11 (131) to 14.13 (97) at Backhaus Oval. The Demons had led by 22 points at the first change, 5.1 to 1.3, before the in-form Eagles booted 19 goals to nine after quarter-time.Grant Connelly, Robert Whyte and Kyle Morcombe were YCW’s best players. Michael Allen, Kieran Atkin, Luke Freeman, Daine Lowry and Devin Brown all kicked three goals. The Demons were best served by coach Cameron Carter and Evan Ritchie.
