Stars return to Golden Square's team for BFNL second semi-final clash with Eaglehawk

02 Sep, 2010 10:30 PM
BFNL flag favourite Golden Square will be at full-strength for tomorrow night’s second semi-final clash with Eaglehawk at the QEO.

Fresh from a week off, the Bulldogs added key forward Matt O’Toole, defender Anthony Holdstock, the versatile James Bristow and Bendigo Pioneers midfielder Tom Paterson to the side which thrashed Strathfieldsaye in round 18.

Young midfielder Dale Lowry is the only omission at this stage, with Golden Square coach Nick Carter to finalise his 21 tomorrow morning.

Skipper Chris Carter, who has only played one senior game this season after undergoing a knee reconstruction, and speedy wingman Matt Klein-Breteler appear in danger of losing their places in the side.

The Borough will also be at full-strength after midfielder Gareth Crawford and Bendigo Pioneers star Mitch Dole were named in the Hawks’ 21 last night.

Eaglehawk also named an extended interchange bench.

South Bendigo coach Rick Coburn added eight players to the Bloods’ squad for Sunday’s first semi-final against Maryborough.

Of the eight inclusions, classy forward Steven Stroobants, defenders Shane Lefevre and Phil Carroll and Bendigo Pioneers midfielder Jayke Barrack are certain starters for the cut-throat final.

Ben Allen, Tom Dargaville, Michael Tonkin and Rory Alexander were all named on an extended bench.

Michael Leech (hamstring), Shaun Bergin (shoulder), Coburn and Ryan Connaughton are the four players out of the side which suffered a 38-point loss to Eaglehawk in the qualifying final last week.

While South Bendigo swung the changes, Maryborough looks destined to play the same 21 which defeated Sandhurst.

Coach Shane Fisher, Michael Noonan, Luke Treacy, Adam Hurse, Ben Jackson and Jayden Hooper were added to the interchange bench.

Sunday’s clash will be Glenn Chadwick’s 250th game for the Magpies.
