KANGAROO FLAT onballer Shannon Geary capped another great season by winning the senior club champion award at the Bendigo Football Netball League club.
Recruited to the Roos in 2009, after stints with Sandhurst, Eaglehawk and the Bendigo Bombers, Geary regularly figured in many of the Flat’s attacks this season.
At the end of the club’s vote count, Geary led century goalkicker Justin Maddern and experienced defender Cameron Carter.
In the reserves, captain Zac Mona was best and fairest, with ruck-rover Jay Pitto the runner-up.
Both played several senior games for the Murray Collins-coached seniors in 2010.
The under-18s best and fairest award was won by Damian Wust.
Runner-up was Jackson White, with Josh Billbrough in third place.
On the netball court, key defender Simone Andrews polled an outstanding 93 votes to be the A grade club champion for the in-form Kangaroos.
Andrews’ closet rival was reliable midcourt player Lauren Cowling, who was runner-up on 44 votes.
Wing-defence Kirsty Harvey was in third place on 35 votes.
In A-Reserve, 250-game player Katie Sullivan took out the award on 61 votes.
Runner-up was club stalwart and key goaler Nina Cass on 51 votes, while defender Alana Conway was third on 48.
The B grade best and fairest was won by defender Laura Brooks on 65 votes, narrowly defeating Melita Carmichael on 63 votes.
Third place went to centre court player Rebecca Connaughton, 57.
Maddy Wharton was awarded the 17-and-under award on 60 votes, ahead of goaler Rachael McKenzie on 46 votes and goal defender Georgie Hyett on 45 votes.
The club’s trophy presentation night for the football and netball teams will be held on October 5 at the Kangaroo Flat Sports Club.
