BRENDON Lummis says he is gutted at having to make the decision to stand down as coach of Loddon Valley Football League club Calivil United.Lummis was in his first season as coach of the Demons, but informed the club of his decision to stand down on Thursday.Lummis was clearly shattered yesterday when speaking to the Bendigo Advertiser, saying his decision was based on “unforeseen circumstances’’.“I’m absolutely gutted,’’ Lummis said.“It’s everything I’ve always wanted to do as far as football is concerned, but to have to give it away in the way that I have, it’s gut-wrenching.“I’ve always wanted to coach a senior footy side, and try to take that side into a finals series, and to play well in a finals series.“I thought Calivil was the perfect fit for me and things were going along brilliantly until a couple of weeks ago.“Basically, there have been some unforeseen circumstances that have all come to a head; something had to go and unfortunately, the footy was it.“Calivil has been really good about it.’’For the remainder of the season the Demons will be coached by Ross Maxted.Maxted previously coached the Demons in 2005 and 2006, during which he led them to back-to-back premierships and won 33 of 38 games.“We’re very happy with the work Brendon has put in at the club,’’ Demons president Rod Lea said.“He has been good for the club, but unfortunately, he has had a few issues come up and he has decided to step down.’’Calivil United – which has played in the past eight grand finals – sits in fourth position on the ladder with a 6-3 record. The Demons are today at home to the sixth-placed Newbridge in round 12.In other games, Inglewood hosts Bridgewater, Marong takes on YCW, and Bears Lagoon-Serpentine meets Mitiamo.
