Building up for titles

METRICON Homes has thrown its support behind White Hills champion junior cyclist Imogen Jelbart for the next three years.

Metricon, who this week opened new headquarters at 219 High Street, Kangaroo Flat, will assist the young cyclist with equipment and travel costs.

Metricon Homes’ sponsorship has already assisted Jelbart with the purchase of a new lightweight bike frame assisting her lead-up to the track season.

Sales manager for regional northern Victoria, Bruno Catanzariti said Metricon Homes was keen to support the up-and-coming cycling star.

“We see it as paramount because young people like Imogen, particularly in the country areas, don’t get the support or maybe the attention that they deserve.

“In line with what we do as a brand new Australian company, we see it as a great opportunity to help Imogen out and see that it will help further her career,” he said.

“Imogen has huge potential. This young lady in my opinion is going to win us a gold medal one day.

“Imogen has all the right qualities. She is a wonderful young lady with the right attitude and is dedicated to her goals.”

Jelbart was this year’s Maxine Crouch Trust Fund recipient in the Bendigo Advertiser-WIN Television Sports Star of the Year, which is backed by mecu credit uion.

Jelbart, who is set to move into the under-19 racing division, said she could not continue to compete without the support of businesses like Metricon Homes.

“It’s good because they are local and a lot of people in Bendigo know who they are, so I can promote them more through my riding,” she said.

“It’s also important to have the sponsorship,” said the Victorian Institute of Sport squad member.

“Metricon have been such a big help to my family and to me, so without them I’d be lost really.

“It takes a lot of pressure off mum and dad who have already had the financial pressure of six years before now, so it’s kind of a little treat to have this support.”

Jelbart is now in training for the Oceania track cycling championships, which will be held in Invercargill, New Zealand, this November.
