MARCELLIN College Bulleen is the only undefeated team after yesterday’s second round in the 37th Marist cricket carnival being played in Bendigo.Yesterday’s matches were played on the turf, after the first round was contested on hard wickets.The Marcellin attack dismissed Newman College Perth for 108 at North Bendigo.Nicholas Biscontin captured 4-25 off 10, and Andrew Dallimore took 3-17.Leading batsmen for Newman were Kain Woodward, 49, and Mitchell DeBarro, 26.Marcellin’s chase was led by Trent Williams, 36, and Dallimore, 28 n.o., as victory was achieved at five wickets down.Chaz Flint took 3-20 for Newman.Catholic College Bendigo bowled first in the clash with Sacred Heart Auckland at Strathdale’s Bell Oval.Sacred Heart reached 7-201, with the leading run-scorers being Alex Wiltshire, 44; Henry Blackwell, 35; and Jordan Payne, 35.The CCB attack was without Jaran McKay, who injured his back on day one.McKay’s clubmate at Strathdale-Maristians, Joel Wharton took 3-37 off 10 overs.Called in to replace McKay, Tim McGlone took 2-30 for CCB.In the chase for victory, James Seymour scored 33, and Seamus O’Connor struck 30 runs off 25 deliveries.A Sacred Heart attack led by Joseph Mills, 3-26; Bill McCarthy, 3-32; and Mathew Quinn, 2-38; kept the heat on as the CCB line-up was dismissed for 136.Marist College Canberra struck back from a first day defeat in fine style.A superb spell by Steve Smith, 4-13 off seven overs, put Marist College Canberra well in control of the contest with St John’s Woodlawn from near Lismore.Smith also had great support from Tim Catlin, 3-20 off five overs, as St John’s was dismissed for 109.Leading run-scorers for St John’s were Daine Moreton, 36, and Ben Cooper, 32.Marist Canberra’s chase was led by Chris Russell, 44 off 43 deliveries; and Luke Seal, 23 off 31. Smith clinched player of the day honours by scoring an unbeaten 30 off 28 deliveries as Marist reached 4-111.Best of the St John’s Woodlawn attack were Ben Cooper and Lachlan Waugh.Man of the match honours in the second round went to Andrew Dallimore (Marcellin College Bulleen); Chaz Flint (Newman College Perth); Joseph Mills (Sacred Heart Auckland); Joel Wharton (Catholic College Bendigo); Tim Catlin (Marist College Canberra); and Daine Moreton (St John’s Woodlawn).Draw for today’s third round matches at 9.30am: Catholic College Bendigo v Marist College Canberra at North Bendigo (back-up ground: Ewing Park).Marcellin College Bulleen v Sacred Heart Auckland at Weeroona Oval (back-up ground: Spring Gully).Newman College Perth v St John’s Woodlawn at White Hills (back-up ground: Catholic College Bendigo La Valla campus at Junortoun).
