THE in-form Eaglehawk and White Hills will meet in tonight’s second round of the Bendigo District Cricket Association’s Twenty20 action at Canterbury Park.
Batsmen in the Hawks’ and Demons’ teams were in fine form in last Saturday’s start to their two-day contests.
Eaglehawk scored 5-248 on home turf against Strathdale-Maristians.
Hawks’ captain and opening batsman Matt Fitt scored 75 runs, and Matt White was unbeaten on 69.
Both will play key roles in tonight’s clash with a White Hills attack led by Glenn Roulston, who captured 2-10 off four overs in the Twenty20 clash with Strathfieldsaye a fortnight ago at the QEO.
White Hills captain Gavin Bowles scored 105 in last Saturday’s play against Huntly-North Bendigo, and the Demons also have the hard-hitting Darren Gregory, Tim Kelly and Ryan McNish to test the Hawks’ attack.
Another big match will be the QEO when Sandhurst faces Kangaroo Flat.
The Dragons had a first-round bye in Twenty20, while the Roos scored 6-163 in their win against Bendigo United under the Dower Park lights.
Brad Orton hit 81 not out against Bendigo United and looms as a key wicket for Sandhurst.
Andrew Hosking, Ryan Metelmann and Matthew Kile batted well in Saturday’s battle with BUCC.
Sandhurst had Strathfieldsaye reeling in Saturday’s play at Tannery Lane, with Quinton Bentley in top form with the ball.
Dragons’ batsmen Nick Scullie, Anthony West, Tim Robertson and Mark Holland will play key roles in tonight’s clash.
Strathfieldsaye will be on home turf at Tannery Lane against Bendigo.
The Jets were 4-9 in last Saturday’s start to the battle with Sandhurst, but a superb fightback was led by Liam Smith, promoted to open the batting, as he finished on 97 not out in a score of 8-206.
The Jets began the Twenty20 series with a thrilling win against White Hills.
Greg Lyon (53) and Zac East (40) led the batting in Strathfieldsaye’s win.
The Bendigo attack dismissed Golden Square for 174 on Saturday at the QEO.
A Bendigo line-up which includes the experience of Mark Ryan, captain Tim Edwards and Glenn Franzi will keep the heat on the Jets in this contest.
Defeated in the opening round of Twenty20, Bendigo United and Huntly-North Bendigo will clash at Harry Trott Oval.
The Redbacks will look to Matt Pinniger, Heath Behrens, Leigh McDermott and Wayne Fidler to lead the way with the bat.
The Power was dismissed for 81 in its start to the Twenty20 campaign, with captain Linc McRae (20) the leading run-scorer.
Miggy Podosky captured 3-27 in a season-best spell in Bendigo United’s clash at Kangaroo Flat on Saturday, while spin bowler Nick Crawford captured five wickets on Saturday, and did not play in the first round of the Twenty20 series.
