Two former Australian international and state cricket spearheads have been added to the ACA Masters side for next month’s Water to Wickets Twenty20 match in Rochester.
Ex-Victorian quick Mick Lewis will partner Western Australian bowling legend Jo Angel with the new ball when the Masters team takes on a combined Campaspe Cricket Association side on Sunday, February 19.
Lewis played 82 first-class games for the Bushrangers and seven one-day internationals for Australia, including an infamous match in South Africa where he was hit for a record-breaking 0-113 in his 10 overs as the home side chased a target of 434.
Angel is a WA cricketing champion who played four Tests and three ODIs for Australia, and retired as the second-highest wicket-taker in Sheffield Shield history with 419 victims.
The two ex-quicks join former New South Wales batsman and Sydney Sixers assistant coach Corey Richards in the Masters side, which boasts many former international and domestic champions.
Lewis said he was looking forward to the match, which aims to lift community spirits and raise funds in a region badly affected by last year’s floods.
“I can’t wait to team up with big Jo in a few weeks and get stuck into it,” Lewis said.
“While we’re probably not at our career quickest, like any bowler we’re keen to unsettle a few blokes and take some wickets.
“Having played for the Bushrangers alongside a lot of guys who grew up in country Victoria, it’ll be great to get to Rochester and help give cricket a pump up throughout the region.”
The Masters side is almost complete with 10 players confirmed for the three-day tour of Rochester, which will include a sportsman’s night and coaching clinics.
The Masters team – with one or two players still to be added – for the match at Moon Oval, Rochester beginning at 1pm is:
Terry Alderman, Jo Angel, Ryan Campbell, Murray Goodwin, Wayne Holdsworth, Mick Lewis, Jimmy Maher, Greg Matthews, Corey Richards and Greg Ritchie.
