THE Northern Rivers’ launch of the newly-named Milo In2Cricket program was held at Strathdale’s Beischer Park yesterday.
In2Cricket is the new name for the former Milo Have-A-Go program and is aimed at introducing boys and girls to cricket.
On hand for yesterday’s launch in Bendigo were new Victorian Bushrangers’ squad member Steve Gilmour, who was also part of Ringwood’s Premier Cricket premiership last season.
Also at the launch were five members of the Victorian Spirit under-15 girls team - Anna Lanning, Rebekah Morris, Siobhan Murphy, Liza-Maria Mitchley and Sarah Tatchell - as well as coach Di Day.
The program aims to educate children in a range of fundamental skills important to development, such as hitting, catching, throwing, running, balance and co-ordination.
“Every region has a regional launch and we chose to have the Northern Rivers’ launch in Bendigo because of the large number of In2Cricket programs run by clubs in Bendigo,’’ Northern Rivers regional cricket manager Travis Colley said.
Forty youngsters attended yesterday’s launch, where they took part in several cricket activities, one of which was to have the pace of their bowling recorded by a speed gun.
