BENDIGO United batsman Heath Behrens added another chapter to his brilliant Bendigo District Cricket Association career on Saturday with a century in his 200th first XI game for the Redbacks.Taking on Strathfieldsaye at Tannery Lane in the round 11 one-day match, Behrens notched up his 20th first XI century for Bendigo United in the Redbacks’ 12-run win.Opening the innings, Behrens made 110 off 130 balls, hitting eight fours and two sixes before he was caught at long-on by Andrew Stove off Daniel Francis (1-31) in the 42nd over with the score 181.Behrens is now within four of the record for the most BDCA centuries, which is held by former Eaglehawk and Golden Square batsman Wayne Walsh with 24.The 32-year-old’s innings on Saturday also kept intact his record of having scored a century in every season since 1998-99.The Redbacks made 2-208 off their 45 overs, with Behrens and Clint Prime (46 off 88) sharing in an opening stand of 137.The Jets didn’t take their first wicket until the 32nd over when Prime was dismissed by Stove (1-38).After Prime’s dismissal No.3 Andrew Powell chipped in with a handy 36 not out off 49 balls to continue his fine debut season for the Redbacks. In reply, Strathfieldsaye was in early trouble when it fell to 4-49 in the 18th over, with the Jets’ two best batsmen Ben Gunn (27 off 28) and Tim Wood (7 off 31) both back in the pavilion. However, the Jets rallied in the middle-order after their poor start, before finishing just 12 runs short as they reached 8-196.Greg Lyon (50) top-scored for the Jets, while skipper Ben Devanny made 42.Lyon and Devanny put on 78 for the fifth wicket.Wily veteran Redbacks’ off-spinner Nick Crawford claimed another bag of wickets, picking up 4-36 off nine overs to now have 21 for the season. However, in a blow for the Redbacks, Leigh McDermott (1-1), who dismissed the dangerous Gunn, bowled only one over after injuring his ankle. The win moved reigning premier Bendigo United to the top of the ladder, while the Jets remain mired to the bottom.
