THE Hit Factory’s Todd Robertson and Sam Baker have progressed to finals of the Victorian Amateur Boxing Association’s state championships.
Robertson will contest the under-64kg final, and Sam Baker will line up in the youth 64kg final on September 12.
In the third bout of his career, Robertson scored a 6-4 win against Adam Tiatis in Sunday’s semi-final at the Reggio Calabria Club in Brunswick.
“Todd won a great fight. He really took control in the third round with some big right rips to the body,” trainer Danniel Burton said.
“He built momentum over the first two rounds and dominated the third.”
Burton said a great sign was Robertson answering his opponent’s challenge in the first minute of the third and final round.
“Todd defended well and showed he had learnt a lot from his previous match.”
Robertson’s record now stands at 2-1. He will keep doing plenty of crunches, skipping and more at the Long Gully-based gym as he prepares to contest the state final against Ararat’s Bill Axon.
Baker’s opponent withdrew from the semi-final, which meant the Bendigo teenager progressed to a finals showdown with Ballarat’s Dyson Rose.
The youngest member of The Hit Factory’s trio vying for a state title, Jordy Garland was crowned the schoolboys’ under-44kg champion.
Garland’s opponent, Bill Garside was almost 2kg above the limit.
Despite the weight discrepancy, Burton and Garland accepted the fight which was stopped in the second round.
“Jordy’s opponent was a year older, and had a weight advantage, but he fought well,” Burton said.
