The talented Bendigo racer, pictured, has long been a standout competitor in Australia and he finished in the top-40 from 105 riders in the 13-year-old boys’ division at the world titles in Copenhagen last year.

This year the world titles are in Birmingham and 13-year-old White has his sight sets on a higher-placed finish.

He’s feeling confident after some sensational results in Australia, which led to him being crowned the 2011 Victorian BMX Junior Rider of the Year last weekend.

Ranked third in Australia for his age group, White currently leads the 14-year-old boys’ National Champbikx Tour and he has started competing against men with promising results.

Introduced to the sport as a six-year-old by his cousin, White showed an early affinity for BMX and has steadily improved because he loves to ride.

“If you enjoy it, you’ll get better. I like it because I get away from everything,” he said.

The Crusoe College year eight student trains at the Eaglehawk BMX track, but he has ridden at numerous tracks around Australia which will hold him in good stead for the big jumps in Birmingham.

“That’s the best part – getting air-time,” he said.

BMX racing made its Olympic debut at the Beijing Games in 2008 and will return for the London Olympics this year. White hopes that one day he will be able to represent Australia at an Olympics.

“I don’t care if I win, I just want to go to an Olympics,” he said.

White will ride the cruiser and more common 20-inch class bikes in Birmingham, where he will be accompanied by his father Michael.

He has received some sponsorship already – including from Bendigo clothing label Cumagutsa – and he is appealing for any donations to help raise $10,000 for him and his father to travel to England.
