THE Bendigo Spirit has secured another big name, with experienced guard Kelly Wilson re-signing for the 2010-11 WNBL season.
Wilson’s re-signing with the Spirit will mark her third consecutive season with the club.
In last season’s WNBL action, Wilson scored more than 20 points in five separate matches and averaged 11 points, four rebounds and two assists per game.
The highlight of the Wilson’s season was a 28 point-game against Logan Thunder to help the Spirit secure a place in the playoffs.
Spirit coach Bernie Harrower said he was looking forward to big things from Wilson this season.
“Kelly is an experienced player having racked up more than 150 WNBL games and now entering her third year with us she’s become and integral part of our guard rotation,” he said.
“She had some great games last year and I think that she’s well placed to play at a level which makes her one of the better scoring guards in the league.”
Wilson also impressed in the SEABL this season, contributing an average of 16 points, four rebounds and four assists per game for the Lady Braves, which Harrower hopes Wilson can transfer to the WNBL.
“If Kelly can transfer that sort of form into this WNBL season she’ll be tough to stop and there’s no reason she can’t given the quality of guards she was playing against week to week in the SEABL,” Harrower said.
Pre-season training for the Spirit starts later this month with the WNBL season to tip off in early October.
