Madgen makes her mark

Bendigo Bank Spirit star Tess Madgen was one of the bright lights of Australia’s bronze medal-winning Summer Universiade team in Shenzen, China.The Australian team defeated Sweden 66-56 in the bronze medal match.Madgen scored nine points and took six rebounds in the bronze medal match, and scored five points in Australia’s 79-67 semi-final loss to the United States. Madgen was among the team’s highest point scorers for the tournament, scoring 14 points in the quarter-final win over Canada and eight points against Czech Republic and Japan.Abby Bishop scored the most points overall, while Elyse Penaluna (Swinburne University of Technology), Marianna Tolo (University of Canberra), Nicole Hunt (Open Universities Australia) and Madgen scored a high percentage.The team had a successful campaign at the University Games, winning five of six matches played.With the addition of the women’s basketball team bronze medal, Australia’s medal tally stands at 15 – five gold, two silver and six bronze medals.
