THE Bendigo Bank Spirit has secured another big name for the 2010-11 WNBL season, with forward Eleanor Haring signing on.
Haring, who hails from Rochester, began her WNBL career with the Australian Institute of Sport before moving to Perth.
The forward also spent four years at the University of Oregon between 2003 and 2007.
This season marks Haring’s third season with the Spirit, although she has had limited game time because of a serious knee injury in 2008.
Coach Bernie Harrower said he was looking forward to seeing Haring back on court this season.
“El has the ability to be an influential player in the WNBL and we’re looking forward to working with her to achieve that,” he said.
“It’s been a tough couple of years, but El has just made it through the SEABL season and will be in good shape when the WNBL season starts in October.
“We need El’s presence to give us the balance we need amongst our bigs. We’re excited about what the season might bring.”
Haring averaged 13 points and three rebounds during the 2008-2009 WNBL season before rupturing her patella tendon in December 2008.
The forward worked her way back to fitness in this year’s SEABL season, averaging six points and two rebounds for the Lady Braves.
Haring’s signing with the Bendigo Spirit follows the recent re-signing of Kelly Wilson, Kerryn Harrington and Canadian import Chelsea Aubry and the recruitment of Heather Oliver and AIS young gun Tess Madgen for this summer’s basketball action across the country.
