Boxers to fight at home

BENDIGO boxing stars Justin Whitehead and Ben Costello will compete before hometown fans next month.

The July 4 fight night at Flora Hill Stadium was confirmed yesterday by the boxing duo’s trainer and promoter, Echuca-based Barry Quinlan.

A Commonwealth Games representative, Whitehead marked his return to boxing last March.

The super heavyweight has won both of his professional boxing bouts.

“It will be a great chance to see Justin and Ben fight in their home town,’’ Quinlan said.

Now living and working in Echuca, Costello has a win-loss record of 2-1 in pro ranks.

The light middleweight won his latest contest by knockout.

Quinlan said there would be at least five bouts on the July 4 card, and possibly a 'footballers challenge'.

Albury’s Matt Hassler is also trained by Quinlan at Justice Gym, and will compete in the super bantamweight division.

Tickets are on sale now, and include ringside tables, and corporate packages.

The tickets are available at Bicknell’s Sports, Tradelink Plumbing Centre, and Golden Square Chicken Inn.
