SYMES Motors Bendigo Braves imports Ivan McFarlin and Luke Meyer have earned selection in the South East Australia Basketball League’s east conference All Star Five.
The Braves stars were selected in the top five, along with Knox guard CJ Massingale, Kilsyth forward Fernandez Lockett and Brisbane forward Ash Cannan.
McFarlin also came in a close second place finish behind Massingale in the Most Valuable Player award, with McFarlin polling 23 votes to Massingale’s 25 votes.
In his first year in the SEABL competition, McFarlin averaged 19.4 points and 13.8 rebounds per game, including three matches of more than 20 rebounds.
Meyer also had a spectacular debut season, averaging 18.9 ponts and 5.7 rebounds per game.
Meyer was outstanding in the Braves’ east conference grand final over win against Knox, with 17 points, four rebounds and five assists and also kept league MVP Massingale to just 15 points.
Braves coach Ben Harvey was runner-up in the 2010 Coach of the Year award behind Kilsyth coach Grant Wallace.
In his first season, Harvey made history as the first coach to both coach and play in a conference grand final, following the Braves grand final win over Knox a fortnight ago.
Former Bendigo junior basketballer Deanna Smith was runner-up in the women’s most valuable player award to Rachel Jarry from the Ballarat Miners.
