Bendigo Bank Spirit faces daunting run at start of WNBL season

18 Aug, 2010 05:00 AM
The Bendigo Bank Spirit has not experienced the luck of the draw, with the club only being allocated two Saturday night home court matches for the 2010-11 Women’s National Basketball League season.

Spirit coach Bernie Harrower said yesterday he was disappointed with the club’s lack of prime time home court games for summer.

“We’ve drawn a lot of Friday night games and Sunday games. We would have really liked a few more Saturday night games so we could get our fans out there,” he said.

“With each Friday night game we have at Bendigo Stadium, local competition needs to be cancelled.

“If everyone had three or four Saturday night games and we all had the same it would be fine, but we’ve only got two for the season.”

The Spirit begin the season with two home court games against reigning champions the Canberra Capitals and Dandenong before hitting the road for the next six weeks, including matches in Canberra, Melbourne and Perth.

The Spirit tip off their WNBL season on October 10 against Canberra at Bendigo Stadium.
