FALCONS celebrated an 11th consecutive A-grade baseball premiership after a hard-fought victory in the second leg of the best-of-three series run by the Bendigo Baseball Association.
The Bendigo East line-up scored three runs in the first inning and ace pitcher Damien Tresize then achieved a shut-out over the Falcons’ first three innings.
East added a run in the third and four in the fourth as James Clow, Aaron Sheriff and Tresize dominated.
Falcons’ veteran Gary Vandermaat hit safely with two runners on base to score three runs.
A pitching change led to Falcons coach Mick Peters shutting down East in the top of the fifth inning.
The Falcons’ renowned fighting spirit was to the fore in the next two innings.
Eight batters achieved a safe hit as Falcons scored eight runs to gain a three-run lead.
A shell-shocked East did not reply in the sixth and Falcons added another six.
At the top of the seventh inning, East needed nine runs to tie the game, but it was another shut-out as Falcons capped a remarkable grand final peformance.
