A FIRST-YEAR competitor, Charlotte Edlin won the third annual Bendigo Race Walking Cup (2400m) on Wednesday night at the La Trobe University Bendigo athletics complex in Flora Hill.
Edlin, 10, hit the front with just over a lap to go and held off the charge from second backmarker Jeremiah Jones and middlemarker Josh Savage to win in a time of 13.40.
Jones was runner-up in a personal best time of 12.16 and broke the club’s under-14 boys’ record which had stood for 19 years.
Savage clocked a PB of 13.59 to be third.
Other personal bests were recorded by Grace Edlin, Dane Heiden, Zoe Boldiston and Catherine Heard.Geoff Major contested his 600th race with the club in his 22nd year of competing with Bendigo Walkers.
Next Wednesday’s racing will be at Rosalind Park.
The 1600m and 4800m sealed handicap events will start at 6pm.
